Episode 11: Mental health is not a taboo

"But there is still one private activity that no would-be political star dares admit to -- even though it's entirely legal and ethical, not to mention healthy." These were the opening words to a NYT opinion piece from 1997 and here we are 24 years later. As we were having these conversations, we realised it was mental health month which just goes to show how this topic is increasingly top of mind for us, and probably for others too. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an undertone of the ever-present mental health issues around the world.

We know that social media has a reinforcing nature that can go either way. It can either bring people together by breaking down the taboos and opening up the conversation, but it can also be addictive which is often associated with anxiety and depression. In this episode, we focus on the awareness, community and how social media platforms enable people to have a lower threshold to enter the conversation on topics like this.

Tune in next week for the following to this conversation where we talk about the biggest troll of them all - Donald Trump.
